The high-flying, high-scoring Denver Nuggets didn't leave town with Allen Iverson, after all. Although the new model features a stingy defense and an effective halfcourt offense engineered by Chauncey Billups, there's still some pop left in the lineup to light up the scoreboards. Linas Kleiza scored 25 points and Carmelo Anthony had 17 and the Nuggets whipped Milwaukee 114-105 Tuesday night.

Since buying the Dallas Mavericks eight years ago, Mark Cuban has turned the team around and made himself one of the most visible owners in pro sports. Along the way, he's picked up his share of critics. Some say he's a nuisance to the NBA, with more than $1 million in fines held up as evidence. Some Mavs fan say his constant baiting of officials merely leads to more calls against the team.

Ray Allen wasn't so sure Boston would be able to pull it out in overtime. The Celtics hadn't scored in nearly three minutes and were fading fast in their eighth game in 12 days. But Paul Pierce hit a 3-pointer on a second chance, and he and Allen hit all six of their free throws, lifting Boston to a scrappy 102-97 overtime victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night.

LeBron James matched a season high with 41 points, finally putting Milwaukee away with a steal and soaring dunk in the final minutes, and Mo Williams scored 16 against his former team as the Cleveland Cavaliers won their fifth straight, 99-93 over the Bucks on Tuesday night. James scored 12 in the fourth quarter and didn't come out in the second half while playing a season-best 43 minutes.

The Celtics trailed by 11 points midway through the first quarter and didn't go ahead until Kevin Garnett's dunk made it 44-42 with 4:13 left in the half.

The Atlanta Hawks have hired former Seattle executive Rick Sund as the team's new general manager. The Houston Rockets became the third team in NBA history to win 20 consecutive games, tying for the league's second-longest winning streak with an 83-75 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. The Rockets joined the 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers (33 straight) and 1970-71 Milwaukee Bucks (20) as the only teams to win 20 or more in a row.

Mike Dunleavy tied his career high of 36 points for the second straight game, and the Indiana Pacers beat the Milwaukee Bucks 128-106 Sunday for their second straight win. It was Dunleavy's third 30-point game in his last six contests, and the third time he has scored 36 points this season. He had just tied the career high Friday at Toronto.

The Milwaukee Bucks got a bad break from the NBA schedule. Just two days after they upset the Pistons at home, the Bucks had to travel to Auburn Hills and take on that same, angry Detroit team on Friday night. It didn't go well. The Pistons had their best scoring night for nearly eight years in a 127-100 rout.




Nets waive former All-Star Magloire
The New Jersey Nets waived center Jamaal Magloire on Friday. The eight-year pro played in 24 games this season, averaging 1.8 points and 3.4 rebounds. He signed with the Nets in July. The former All-Star has averaged 8.7 points and 7.3 rebounds in 530 NBA games with Charlotte, Milwaukee, Portland and New Jersey.

Barnes can't play due to inactive list snafu
Golden State forward Matt Barnes was ruled ineligible Saturday night against Milwaukee because of an error made when the Warriors turned in their active and inactive lists. Barnes was not placed on either list when the team turned them in before the game. Instead, guard Mickael Pietrus was named on both lists, and was eligible to play. Barnes has played in 36 games, starting 12, and is averaging 7.7 points. He was not on the bench during the game.

The Hawks, losers of 18 of their last 20 in Milwaukee, failed to hit a field goal for more than 12 minutes spanning the third and fourth quarters, missing 13 straight shots before Anthony Johnson hit a 3-pointer with 1:04 left.
