Leandro Barbosa scored 16 of his team-high 27 points in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 43.8 seconds left, and the Phoenix Suns withstood a furious fourth-quarter rally to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 107-102 on Monday night. The Grizzlies had rallied from a 17-point third-quarter deficit and led 102-100 on Rudy Gay's dunk off an offensive rebound with 1:30 remaining.

Carmelo Anthony scored 24 points, Chauncey Billups had 16 points and 10 assists and the Denver Nuggets beat the Memphis Grizzlies 100-90 on Sunday night. Nene added 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Nuggets, who had six players score in double figures. Rookie guard O.J. Mayo scored a season-high 31 and added eight rebounds for the Grizzlies, but he had only five points after halftime.

Since acquiring Ron Artest in the offseason, the Houston Rockets have talked boldly about contending for the NBA championship. They have plenty of improvements to make before that happens. Rockets guard Rafer Alston was found not guilty Friday on a drunken-driving charge. A Harris County jury cleared the 32-year-old point guard of the misdemeanor, court spokesman Fred King said in an e-mail to The Associated Press. Alston was arrested in August after he was pulled over by police who said he made an erratic lane change and was driving without his headlights on. Dwyane Wade scored 25 points, Michael Beasley scored nine of his 19 in the fourth quarter, and the Miami Heat beat the Memphis Grizzlies 102-85 Tuesday night for their first preseason win in nearly two years. Wade also had six assists and five rebounds for the Heat, who improved to 1-4 in this preseason.




Gay sits out with staph infection
Memphis forward Rudy Gay has a staph infection and did not play Tuesday night in the Grizzlies' preseason game against the Miami Heat. Gay will be a game-time decision for Memphis' exhibition finale Wednesday against the Orlando Magic. The team did not reveal specifics of the infection, other than saying it was "in his leg area." Ron Artest scored 12 of his 15 points in the first quarter of his Houston debut and the Rockets beat the Memphis Grizzlies 96-93 in the preseason opener on Tuesday night. Tracy McGrady sat out to rest his sore left knee. The Rockets star had offseason surgery to remove loose tissue in the knee and said last week that it was healing slower than expected.

Minnesota Timberwolves center Jason Collins had surgery to repair a ruptured triceps tendon in his right elbow. The team said Thursday that Collins was injured in a freak golf accident when his cart skidded on some wet ground and tipped over. Orlando Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu has been selected the NBA's most improved player. The NBA announced Monday that Turkoglu received 380 points, including 61 first-place votes. Memphis Grizzlies guard Rudy Gay was second with 167 points and 23 first-place votes, while Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge was third with 128 points and nine first-place votes. Swift averaged 6.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in seven seasons with Memphis and one with the Houston Rockets.

The San Antonio Spurs bolstered their backcourt Sunday, signing point guard Damon Stoudamire. The addition gives the Spurs another option while Tony Parker nurses a left heel injury. Josh Howard hit his first eight shots on the way to 26 points and the Dallas Mavericks shot 54 percent in a 103-84 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night. Howard ended the night 10-of-17 for Dallas, which won its fourth straight and 12 in the last 14. It also was the Mavericks 13th straight win over the Grizzlies, including a sweep of Memphis in the opening round of the 2006 playoffs.




Grizzlies waive Stoudamire
-The Memphis Grizzlies waived veteran point guard Damon Stoudamire on Monday and plan to release him if he clears waivers. The move, announced before Monday night's game against the Dallas Mavericks, had been expected for weeks. Stoudamire, a former first-round pick in his 13th season out of Arizona, had been relegated to third-string status behind rookie Mike Conley, the fourth overall pick in last year's draft, and Kyle Lowry in his second year out of Villanova.

Harris out multiple weeks with bone bruise
Mavericks guard Devin Harris will miss at least 2-3 weeks with a bone bruise on his left ankle. Harris was injured when he landed awkwardly on a hard drive to the basket early in the fourth quarter of a 90-85 victory against Denver on Sunday. He didn't travel for Dallas' game Monday at Memphis. An MRI performed Monday showed no additional damage to the ankle. In his first year as the full-time starter at point guard, Harris is averaging career highs of 14.4 points and 5.3 assists per game.

LeBron James scored a season-high 51 points, including 25 in the fourth quarter and overtime, to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 132-124 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night. James made 18 of 28 shots and also had nine assists and eight rebounds as the Cavaliers handed their Grizzlies their fifth straight loss.
