Celtics roll past Iverson, Pistons 98-80 (AP)

Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett (5) yells as he takes to the floor to face the Detroit Pistons in the first half of their NBA basketball game in Boston, Thursday Nov. 20, 2008.

Rajon Rondo had 18 points and eight assists, outplaying new Pistons acquisition Allen Iverson and leading the Boston Celtics to a 98-80 victory over Detroit on Thursday night in a rematch of last season's Eastern Conference finals. Iverson had 16 points and four assists for Detroit, which fell to 4-3 since he was acquired from Denver for Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess.

Pistons end Cavaliers' 8-game win streak (AP)

Cleveland Cavaliers' Ben Wallace, left, goes to the basket against Detroit Pistons' Jason Maxiell during the first half of an NBA basketball game Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, in Auburn Hills, Mich.

The Allen Iverson-led Detroit Pistons have cooled off two of the NBA's best teams in less than a week. Iverson had 23 points and Rasheed Wallace added 21, leading a fourth-quarter surge that gave the Pistons a 96-89 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night. LeBron James had led Cleveland to an eight-game winning streak -- the longest in the NBA -- but he made just eight of 21 shots...

Boston Celtics star Kevin Garnett has been suspended for one game and Phoenix center Shaquille O'Neal has been fined $25,000 for separate incidents over the weekend. Garnett was penalized for hitting Milwaukee's Andrew Bogut in the face near the end of Saturday's game. Garnett will sit out Tuesday night when the Celtics host the New York Knicks. O'Neal was fined for verbally abusing an official and failing to leave the court quickly after being ejected Sunday night against Detroit.img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Foxsports/rss/NBA/~4/456550686" height="1" width="1"/

Suns top Pistons despite Shaq's ejection (AP)

Detroit Pistons' Richard Hamilton, right, drives past Phoenix Suns' Raja Bell (19) in the first quarter of an NBA basketball game Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008 in Phoenix. The Suns defeated the Pistons 104-86.

Shaquille O'Neal made an early exit from Amare Stoudemire's 26th birthday party. Stoudemire and the rest of the already short-handed Phoenix Suns did just fine without him Sunday night. Stoudemire had 29 points and 11 rebounds and the Suns overcame O'Neal's second-quarter ejection to beat the Detroit Pistons 104-86.

Nuggets extend Timberwolves' slide to 8 (AP)

Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Randy Wittman, left, argues a call against his team as guard Randy Foye looks on against the Denver Nuggets in the first quarter of an NBA basketball game in Denver on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008.

Chauncey Billups scored 26 points, J.R. Smith had eight of his 14 points in a decisive fourth-quarter stretch and the Denver Nuggets overcame poor shooting to hand Minnesota its eighth straight loss, 90-84 on Sunday night. Carmelo Anthony added 14 points and 12 rebounds to help Denver improve to 5-1 since the Nuggets acquired Billups in the trade that sent Allen Iverson to Detroit.

Shaq thrown out for flagrant foul
Shaquille O'Neal was ejected from Sunday night's game between the Phoenix Suns and Detroit Pistons for a flagrant foul. The call came with 5:19 left in the second quarter when Rodney Stuckey went up for a layup and O'Neal sent the Pistons' player chest-first onto the court. The flagrant foul two, which is an automatic ejection, was upheld after a review by the officials. O'Neal stayed on the court to argue vehemently before finally leaving.img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Foxsports/rss/NBA/~4/455533689" height="1" width="1"/

Rasheed Wallace had 25 points and 13 rebounds, Allen Iverson added 25 points and the Detroit Pistons handed the Los Angeles Lakers their first loss of the season, 106-95 Friday night. Kobe Bryant scored 29 points for the Lakers, but went 12-of-30 from the floor. The Lakers, who won their first seven and were outscoring opponents by an average of 18 points, had been the only team in the NBA without...

Wallace's consecutive 3s lift Pistons (AP)

Golden State Warriors coach Don Nelson holds his head as the Warriors lose ball possession during the final minutes of an NBA basketball game against the Detroit Pistons Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, in Oakland, Calif.

Rasheed Wallace tipped a ball into the wrong basket at one end and missed two free throws at the other. Just when it seemed like his fourth-quarter mistakes might doom Detroit, Wallace hit back-to-back 3-pointers that gave the Pistons the lead for good and sent them to a 107-102 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night.

The injury-depleted Chicago Bulls signed veteran point guard Lindsey Hunter, who is expected to join the team for the game Thursday against the Dallas Mavericks. Iverson has 30 in first win with Pistons (AP)

Detroit Pistons guard Allen Iverson pumps his fists after making two free throws in the closing moments of the Pistons 100-92 win over the Sacramento Kings in NBA basketball in Sacramento, Calif., Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008.

For a veteran like Allen Iverson, a win in November against a lottery team rarely registers as important. After losing his first two games with his new team, that wasn't the case with this victory. Iverson had 30 points, nine assists and provided a spark for Detroit after a slow start, winning his first game since joining the Pistons, 100-92 over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night.

The Pistons will begin their West Coast road trip without guard Rodney Stuckey, who experienced symptoms of lightheadedness and dizziness in Sunday night's loss to Boston. The Pistons say Stuckey remained in Detroit for testing and is listed as day to day. Stuckey squatted with discomfort in the second quarter, then stood with his hands on his knees. He later patted his chest rapidly while talking to the team's strength coach Arnie Kander, who said afterward that Stuckey was fine.img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Foxsports/rss/NBA/~4/448900730" height="1" width="1"/

Harris to miss 2nd straight game for Nets
New Jersey guard Devin Harris has been ruled out of Monday's game against the Miami Heat because of continued problems with a sprained left ankle. Harris hasn't played since scoring a career-best 38 points against the Detroit Pistons on Friday. He sat out the Nets' 98-80 loss at Indiana on Saturday, and coach Lawrence Frank said there's "a pretty good chance" Harris will miss a home game with the Pacers on Wednesday as well. "If he's able to get back Wednesday, then he'll go," Frank said.img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Foxsports/rss/NBA/~4/448729731" height="1" width="1"/

Allen Iverson was welcomed to the Motor City with a standing ovation so loud that the public-address announcer couldn't be heard. Then, the Boston Celtics quieted the crowd and spoiled Iverson's first game at home with the Detroit Pistons. Tony Allen scored 12 of his 23 points in the pivotal second quarter, lifting Boston to an 88-76 win on Sunday night.

New Jersey, which trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half, played some of its best basketball of the season in the final two periods to hand the Pistons their first loss after four wins to open the season.

Iverson in lineup for Pistons debut (AP)
Allen Iverson was in the starting lineup for Detroit on Friday night, making his delayed debut for the Pistons against the New Jersey Nets. Detroit (4-0) played twice since the trade Monday with Denver that sent Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb to the Nuggets for the nine-time All-Star.

No place like home for Denver native Billups
Chauncey Billups' vertical has diminished and his speed in the open court slowed. That's fine with the Denver Nuggets - they just like him for his winning touch. The Mile High City native led the Detroit Pistons to six straight Eastern Conference finals with his impeccable decision-making abilities and clutch shooting. That's why the Nuggets acquired Billups, along with Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb, from Detroit this week for Allen Iverson.img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Foxsports/rss/NBA/~4/444977121" height="1" width="1"/

Iverson's status for Wednesday game still uncertain
Allen Iverson is questioning his status as an NBA superstar. After being traded for the second time in his career, Iverson is awaiting the results of Chauncey Billups' physical before being allowed to play for Detroit. "I'm starting to feel like a journeyman," Iverson said jokingly at the Pistons' shootaround before the game against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night. Some journeyman.img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Foxsports/rss/NBA/~4/443610299" height="1" width="1"/

Billups likely to miss next Nuggets game (AP)
Chauncey Billups isn't likely to make his Denver Nuggets debut on Wednesday night at Golden State. The Nuggets said Tuesday Billups didn't have enough time to get to the Bay Area. He was in Charlotte with the Pistons when the deal took place. Brand's addition has 76ers thinking big (AP)

In this Oct. 22, 2008 file photo, Philadelphia 76ers' Elton Brand goes up for a dunk during the third quarter of an NBA preseason basketball game against the New Jersey Nets in East Rutherford, N.J. The 76ers were one of the surprises of the league last season and their competitive first-round playoff series with Detroit showed they weren't far off from becoming Eastern Conference contenders. So the 76ers went out and made one of the biggest splashes of the NBA offseason, signing Brand and positioning themselves to make a run in the East.

There were days in Philly when Maurice Cheeks and the 76ers were the talk of the town. Those years with Julius Erving, Bobby Jones, Moses Malone in the early 1980s saw the Sixers routinely expected to contend -- and even win -- the NBA Finals. When the Sixers finally broke through and claimed the title in 1983, Cheeks punctuated the clincher with a dunk in the final seconds.

Miami Heat's David Padgett, left, dunks against Detroit Pistons' Jason Maxiell during the second half of a preseason NBA basketball game on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, in Miami. The Pistons won in overtime 95-91.

Michael Beasley only wanted to see a movie. So on Saturday night, he left his new house in the Coconut Grove section of Miami, headed to a nearby theater and tried to get tickets for "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist." Small problem: Word of the Heat first-rounder's presence leaked, and the 19-year-old was quickly mobbed by dozens of people.

Heat aim to build momentum in preseason (AP)
The notion that preseason games are irrelevant doesn't apply these days with the Miami Heat. A winless exhibition record in 2007 was the first sign of trouble in what quickly became a miserable season for the Heat, who open this year's preseason slate Sunday at home against the Detroit Pistons. With a revamped roster and newly installed offensive sets, the Heat may place a bit more emphasis on the...

Rasheed Wallace seems to symbolize the Detroit Pistons. He is a unique talent, the only player in league history with 100 3-pointers and 100 blocks in multiple seasons, and the team defies NBA convention by having success without a superstar or two. Wallace also appears to check out mentally at inopportune times, as do some of his Pistons teammates.

Rivers, Celtics want to close it out in Game 6
