The team announced the All-Star center's injury on Tuesday and said he would get a second opinion before deciding whether to have the surgery. Clanton said last week that the surgery would involve placing screws across the bone to hold it together with a recovery time of about four months.

The Houston Rockets lost Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming to injuries during Sunday's game against the Detroit Pistons. McGrady left at halftime after aggravating his sore left knee, and Yao left after getting cut in the face. A team spokesman said McGrady would not return, but Yao's status was uncertain. McGrady left Houston's Dec. 19 loss to Orlando after injuring the knee, and missed a loss at Denver the next day.

Rockets' Battier hurt after taking elbow
Houston Rockets forward Shane Battier left Saturday night's game against Dallas after getting elbowed in the head by Dirk Nowitzki, a blow that opened a bloody gash. The two were going after a miss by Yao Ming late in the first quarter. Battier went straight to the bench after taking the hit and grabbed a towel as blood spilled on the floor. Trainer Keith Jones walked Battier to the locker room. Rockets spokesman Nelson Luis said Battier was getting stitches.

Yao Ming had 28 points and 13 rebounds to help the Houston Rockets snap a four-game, home-court losing streak to San Antonio with a 89-81 win over the Spurs on Tuesday night. Bonzi Wells added 14 points and 15 rebounds for Houston, which controlled Tim Duncan and outrebounded the sluggish Spurs 55-28. Duncan scored 14 and grabbed 10 rebounds, but went only 5-for-15 from the field. Tracy McGrady struggled with his shooting, too, going 4-of-14 and scoring only 12.
