Dwight Howard had 25 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Orlando Magic past the Charlotte Bobcats 96-89 Tuesday night for their fifth straight win. Jameer Nelson scored 17 points, Hedo Turkoglu had 15 and Von Wafer 13 as the Magic won for the 10th time in 12 games. Gerald Henderson had 22 points for Charlotte, which has lost eight of its last nine.




Magic, Celts finish Bass for Davis swap (AP)
The Boston Celtics have finalized a trade that brings them Orlando Magic forward Brandon Bass for forward Glen Davis and guard Von Wafer. The deal became official on Monday. Bass' agent, Tony Dutt, said last Friday it was being completed. That night, after the Celtics' first practice since NBA lockout ended, coach Doc Rivers said he hoped Bass could practice with the team soon.

Kevin Garnett scored 23 points and the Boston Celtics got a rare, brief and potentially final glimpse of Shaquille O'Neal on Sunday night in a 101-90 victory over the Detroit Pistons. Paul Pierce scored 22 points and Rajon Rondo added 14 assists for the Celtics. Will Bynum scored 20 points, Tayshaun Prince had 16 and Charlie Villanueva 15 for the Pistons.

Kevin Garnett scored 21 points, Paul Pierce added 20 and Rajon Rondo had 12 assists on Friday night to lead the Boston Celtics to their fifth straight win, a 110-86 victory over the Utah Jazz. Deron Williams had a season-low five points for the Jazz, who have lost three in a row. Earl Watson scored 12 for Utah, while Paul Millsap, Gordon Hayward and Andrei Kirilenko had 11 apiece.

"There was a fight, and that's all you need to know," Rivers said before Friday night's game against the New York Knicks.

The 6-foot-5 Wafer has averaged 6.2 points and 1.3 rebounds in 13.3 minutes per game in a four-year career with the Lakers, Clippers, Nuggets, Trail Blazers and Rockets. He spent 10 days with the Dallas Mavericks last year, but did not get into a game.

Free agent guard Von Wafer says he has signed a two-year deal with Olympiakos of Greece. Wafer made nearly $800,000 last season with the Houston Rockets. Wafer told KRIV-TV on Wednesday that the agreement allows him to opt out after the first year with the Greek team, but only to return to the NBA. He said Olympiakos gave him the best offer he had received all summer.

Free agent guard Von Wafer has signed a two-year, $10 million deal to play for Olympiakos, the same Greek team that landed Linus Kleiza from the Nuggets earlier this week. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard will leave for Greece on Friday, said Giovanni Funiciello, who is Wager's international agent. The contract will allow Wafer to opt out after one season, but only to sign with an NBA team. Wafer confirmed the deal Wednesday after it was reported by KRIV-TV in Houston. Wafer, 24, averaged 9.

Yao Ming scored 31 points, Rafer Alston added 18 points and 11 assists and the Houston Rockets beat the Denver Nuggets 115-113 on Monday afternoon. Denver's Kenyon Martin missed two foul shots with 2.6 seconds left, and Yao rebounded to clinch the win. Kobe Bryant sank a 3-pointer with 27 seconds left and scored 33 points, and the Los Angeles Lakers beat the undermanned Houston Rockets 105-100 on Tuesday night. Bryant had 13 points in the fourth quarter, finally getting the better of Houston's Von Wafer, who scored a career-high 23 points in place of the injured Tracy McGrady.

Now the Celtics are losing at home, too. Von Wafer hit a 3-pointer with 44 seconds left to give Houston the lead and the Rockets beat Boston 89-85 on Wednesday night. It was the sixth loss in eight games for the defending NBA champions, but their first at home since a Nov. 14 defeat to Denver sent them on a 19-game winning streak.




Yao scores 33 as Rockets beat Warriors (AP)

Yao Ming scored 19 of his season-high 33 points in the fourth quarter, and Ron Artest added 28 points to help the Houston Rockets beat Golden State 131-112 on Friday night. Yao also had 14 rebounds and five assists. Rafer Alston and Von Wafer scored 18 points apiece and the Rockets went 13-of-21 from 3-point range to hand the Warriors their eighth straight loss.




Rockets sign second-round pick Dorsey
Rookie forward Joey Dorsey agreed to a contract Monday with the Houston Rockets. The 6-foot-8 Dorsey was drafted by Portland early in the second round before the Rockets acquired his rights. Dorsey was twice named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year for Memphis, where he was the league's career rebounding leader. Allen Iverson was quiet early, then reminded the Portland Trail Blazers why he's an All-Star. Iverson scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half, including a game-winning fade-away with less than a second left in overtime, and the Denver Nuggets beat the Portland Trail Blazers 105-103 on Monday night.

'Melo, Nuggets cruise past Clippers (AP)

Carmelo Anthony and Von Wafer each scored 17 points, leading the Denver Nuggets to a 119-107 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night in the first exhibition game for both teams.
