BOSTON (AP) Sasha Pavlovic scored 12 of his of his season-high 16 points in the fourth quarter, leading a group of Boston Celtics reserves in a 78-66 win over the Miami Heat on Tuesday night as both teams rested their top players.

Paul Pierce and former Magic forward Brandon Bass each scored 19 points to carry the injury-riddled Boston Celtics to an 87-56 win over the Orlando Magic on Monday night. The Magic set franchise lows for points and field goals (16). Boston was minus starters Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo and three bench players, drastically reducing its roster.




Injured Pierce to miss opener vs. Knicks (AP)

Boston forward Paul Pierce missed the NBA season opener at New York because of a bruised right heel, and the Celtics hope he can return Tuesday when they visit Miami. Sasha Pavlovic started at forward for the Celtics on Sunday. Coach Doc Rivers says Pierce did little during a light practice Saturday, making it an easy decision to sideline the All-Star.

The deal Monday comes after All-Star forward Dirk Nowitzki has missed seven consecutive games with a right knee injury. The Mavericks are also without Caron Butler, who is likely done for the season because of a torn tendon in his right knee.

Cavaliers swingman Sasha Pavlovic will miss at least the first round of the playoffs with a sprained ankle. Pavlovic injured his left ankle in the third quarter of Monday night's 91-90 win at Philadelphia. He's expected to miss two to three weeks. It's been a lost year for Pavlovic, who started the season with a contract holdout, missed 23 games with a sprained left foot, was benched recently and had just returned to the starting lineup in place of the struggling Wally Szczerbiak.

Dwight Howard had 23 points and 13 rebounds, Rashard Lewis scored 21 and the Orlando Magic beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 104-90 on Monday night. LeBron James had 30 points, nine rebounds and six assists for Cleveland. Delonte West had 16 points and Sasha Pavlovic added 14. Orlando was 1-for-9 from the field to open the game, and didn't get much better through three quarters.

Stephen Jackson scored 29 points and Baron Davis added 27 to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 105-96 victory over the struggling Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday night. The Warriors, playing the finale of a five-game trip, never trailed and built an 89-61 lead late in the third quarter. The Cavaliers outscored the Warriors 29-14 in the fourth to make the final score appear more respectable.

The Celtics easily overcame a slow start. The Cavaliers couldn't overcome the absence of LeBron James.
