Former Detroit Pistons "Bad Boy" Bill Laimbeer and former Sacramento head coach Reggie Theus are among the assistants who will work under Kurt Rambis with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The team announced the additions Thursday. The staff also includes Dave Wohl, who most recently worked in the Boston Celtics organization. J.B. Bickerstaff is being retained from Kevin McHale's staff. Laimbeer resigned as coach of the WNBA's Detroit Shock earlier this summer.

Kings win interim coach Natt's debut (AP)
The pregame butterflies in Kenny Natt's stomach grew into a menacing swarm when the Sacramento Kings missed the first 10 shots of his head coaching debut. "I didn't know whether I would have to dress out and get out there and shoot a shot myself, or what," said Natt, the veteran assistant who replaced Reggie Theus earlier Monday.

Kings fire coach Theus after 6-18 start (AP)
Reggie Theus was fired as coach of the Sacramento Kings on Monday after a 6-18 start to his second season with the club. Assistant coach Kenny Natt took over the Kings at their shootaround before Monday night's game against Minnesota, spokesman Troy Hanson said. Natt is Sacramento's fourth coach in less than three years.

Big 3rd, Williams' 15 assists lift Jazz (AP)

Deron Williams had nine of his 15 assists during a 44-point third quarter, and the Utah Jazz pulled away for a 120-94 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Friday night. Williams finished with 13 points before sitting out the fourth quarter and resting his left ankle, which he sprained in the preseason and caused him to miss 13 games.

Kings hire Abdur-Rahim as assistant
The Sacramento Kings hired Shareef Abdur-Rahim as an assistant coach Wednesday, a week after the veteran forward retired because of a persistent knee injury. The 31-year-old Abdur-Rahim will join coach Reggie Theus' staff after missing most of last season because of knee problems. Kings F Garcia agrees to multiyear deal (AP)
Swingman Francisco Garcia agreed in principle to a multiyear contract extension with the Sacramento Kings on Thursday. Garcia averaged 12.3 points and 2.9 rebounds last season as a key part of coach Reggie Theus' rotation, mostly as a reserve. The 6-foot-7 Dominican from the Bronx is entering his fourth pro season with Sacramento.

Kings re-sign Beno Udrih to generous deal
The Sacramento Kings re-signed point guard Beno Udrih on Wednesday, keeping Mike Bibby's successor with a five-year deal. The $32 million contract pleased both Udrih and coach Reggie Theus, who said he made a strong recommendation to top executive Geoff Petrie to keep Udrih. He averaged 12.8 points, 4.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 32 minutes in 65 games with the Kings. Udrih also scored a career-high 27 points against the Spurs on Nov. 26.

Although it's been three years since Darius Songaila played in Sacramento, he still knows how to stir up the crowd at Arco Arena. The Washington reserve forward scored seven points in the final 59 seconds and Antawn Jamison had 25 points and 12 rebounds Friday night for the Wizards, who held off the Sacramento Kings 114-108.




Heat end 11-game skid, rout Kings 107-86 (AP)

For one night, it all worked. Half-court alley-oop passes, 3-pointers in transition, even the occasional lucky bounce off the glass. The Miami Heat still have the worst record in the NBA. Kings' Theus gets first win (AP)

Francisco Garcia's timely 3-pointer saved the Sacramento Kings from what would have been quite the double whammy in their home opener. Garcia hit a go-ahead baseline 3 with 29 seconds to play, lifting Sacramento to a 104-98 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics and a win for new coach Reggie Theus in his Arco Arena debut.




Thumb injury could sideline Bibby for 6-10 weeks

Jason Terry made a 3-pointer with four seconds left to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 101-99 victory over the Sacramento Kings in a preseason game on Tuesday night. Sacramento led for much of the night, but the Mavericks were 9-of-17 from the field in the fourth quarter and got 11 points from forward Dirk Nowitzki to pull out the win.

Kevin Martin scored 27 points to help the Sacramento Kings beat the Seattle SuperSonics 104-98 on Tuesday night in the debut of new coaches in Reggie Theus and P.J. Carlesimo. Seattle rookie Kevin Durant, the No. 2 pick overall in the draft, struggled to contain Martin, who had 14 first-quarter points, and picked up his fourth foul in the second quarter on a charge.
