Carmelo Anthony scored 26 points, J.R. Smith had 21 and the Denver Nuggets held off the Los Angeles Clippers 105-103 Friday night to win their sixth straight and give coach George Karl his 998th career win. The Hornets have agreed to trade starting shooting guard Rasual Butler to the Los Angeles Clippers for a future second-round draft choice. A person with direct knowledge of the trade told The Associated Press of the deal on condition of anonymity because it had not yet been announced. The move will save the Hornets about $3.9 million.

The Clippers have acquired shooting guard Rasual Butler and cash from the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for a conditional second-round draft pick in 2016. Butler had the most productive season of his seven-year career in 2008-09, averaging 11.2 points and 3.3 rebounds while playing in all 82 games for the Hornets, who made the playoffs. He shot 40 percent from the floor and 37 percent from 3-point range to match his career averages.

New Orleans Hornets guard Rasual Butler has been charged with flashing a loaded gun near a South Florida nightclub. A witness told investigators that Butler pulled out a gun near a South Beach club early Monday, according to a Miami Beach police report. Butler was sitting in an SUV when officers arrived and found a loaded gun in the vehicle. "We take these matters very seriously and we'll work with all appropriate authorities," Hornets general manager Jeff Bower said in a statement.
