Jameer Nelson and Hedo Turkoglu made sure there would be no letdown for the Orlando Magic. Turkoglu scored 11 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter, Nelson returned with an injured toe to score 12 in the final frame, and the Magic slowly pulled away to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 118-94 on Saturday night.

Tony Parker didn't have another 55-point night in him, so his San Antonio Spurs relied on their defense to carry them to a 98-86 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night. In his first game back at Target Center since that career night on Nov. 5 that also included 10 assists, Parker managed 17 points and nine assists.




Thunder lose debut to Wolves in Montana (AP)
Rashad McCants scored 13 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter and Rodney Carney and Ryan Gomes hit consecutive 3s to help Minnesota spoil the Oklahoma City Thunder's debut with an 88-82 victory Wednesday night. Rookie Kevin Love scored 13 points and Mike Miller added 12, lifting the Timberwolves to a 117-79 preseason victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night that made Minnesota's draft day trade look promising. Al Jefferson chipped in 18 points and eight rebounds in 19 minutes, and the new-look Timberwolves may have acquired enough offensive threats to improve on last season's 22-60 mark.

Ryan Gomes made a pair of free throws with 2.9 seconds remaining to give the Minnesota Timberwolves a 102-101 victory over the playoff-bound Orlando Magic on Friday night. Randy Foye had a game-high 25 points and Rashad McCants added 19 to lead the Timberwolves, who snapped a six-game losing streak. The playoff-bound Magic have lost six of their last 10 games.

Chris Paul had 19 points and 16 assists, and the New Orleans Hornets bounced back to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 122-90 Wednesday night. Peja Stojakovic scored 24 points and David West had 22 for the Hornets, who scored just 66 points in a loss to Utah on Tuesday. Rashad McCants had 23 for the Timberwolves, who have lost six straight.

Ryan Gomes scored 26 points, reserve Rashad McCants had 24, and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the New York Knicks, another lottery-bound team, 114-93 on Saturday night. The Timberwolves (18-51) and Knicks (19-50) are in the NBA's bottom five, fighting for draft position and figuring out which young players are keepers over the season's final weeks.

Al Jefferson and Rashad McCants scored 22 points, Randy Foye added a season-high 20, and the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Utah Jazz 111-100 on Tuesday night. Minnesota forced 24 turnovers and held the Jazz to 6-for-21 shooting in the final quarter to snap a two-game losing streak and get its first win against the Northwest Division.

Tracy McGrady had 26 points, six rebounds and seven assists, and the surging Houston Rockets held on for a 92-86 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night. Al Jefferson led Minnesota to another unlikely victory over the Phoenix Suns. Jefferson had a career-high 39 points and 15 rebounds, and the Timberwolves won two in a row for the first time this season, 117-107 over the Western Conference leaders on Wednesday night. Amare Stoudemire led Phoenix with 33 points, but only 19 of them came in the last 43 minutes.

Ever since Stephen Jackson returned to the Golden State lineup, the Warriors have been methodically chugging along. Jackson's clutch shooting and another strong all-around game from Baron Davis kept the Warriors going Tuesday night in chilly Minnesota, helping Golden State reach heights not seen in the Bay Area in quite some time.

The Miami Heat sunk to a new low on Tuesday night -- they were handled by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Rashad McCants continued his sharp shooting streak with 27 points and the Timberwolves snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 101-91 victory over the reeling Heat. An injury to the team's franchise player overshadowed a nice win by the SuperSonics. Wally Szczerbiak and rookie Jeff Green each scored 18 points, and Seattle overcame the loss of Kevin Durant to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 109-90 on Saturday night. The Sonics played the final three quarters without Durant, their leading scorer.

If the Washington Wizards continue to show the type of explosiveness they did on Friday night, their horrible start to the season will soon be forgotten. Caron Butler scored a season-high 29 points, Gilbert Arenas added 27, and the Wizards beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 105-89 for their third consecutive victory.




McCants looks healthy in Wolves' 1st win
Minnesota's role for Rashad McCants was expanded during the offseason overhaul. Well, this was the kind of game the Timberwolves hope to get more often from McCants, who has the ability to race to the basket and swish an outside shot with the best of them. McCants scored a career-high 33 points on 13-for-22 shooting in Minnesota's first victory this season, 108-103 over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night. "This is his opportunity to be that type of player," coach Randy Wittman said.

The Timberwolves want Rashad McCants to shoot, and that's just what he did. McCants scored a career-high 33 points on 13-for-22 shooting in Minnesota's first victory this season, 108-103 over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night. Ron Artest returned from his seven-game suspension with 17 points and six assists for the Kings, who have lost all five of their road games.

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Rashad McCants left the game against the Orlando Magic in the first quarter Tuesday night after spraining his right ankle. McCants, the Wolves' leading scorer this year with an average of 18 points, was hurt when he drove the baseline and was tangled up with two Magic players under the basket.

McHale: We expect both to be part of future
The Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday exercised the third-year option on guard Randy Foye and the fourth-year option on guard Rashad McCants. "We expect both Randy and Rashad to be a big part of our future," said Kevin McHale, vice president of basketball operations. Foye, a second-year player from Villanova, earned NBA All-Rookie first-team honors in 2006-07. He was the seventh overall pick of the 2006 NBA draft and played in all 82 games for the Wolves, starting 12. He averaged 15.

Smith, Davis give Minnesota preseason win
Craig Smith scored 20 points, and Ricky Davis had 19 to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 113-110 double-overtime preseason victory over the Indiana Pacers on Friday night. Al Jefferson finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Rashad McCants scored 18 points for the Timberwolves (2-3), who led by as many as 23 points in the first half. Jeff Foster had 12 points and 20 rebounds for the Pacers (4-1), while Marquis Daniels and Jamaal Tinsley both added 18 points and Travis Diener had 16.
