Former NBA coach and player John Lucas is joining the Los Angeles Clippers as an assistant. The team said Friday that Lucas will join Tony Brown, Kim Hughes and Fred Vinson on coach and general manager Mike Dunleavy's staff. Lucas was head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2001-03, where he coached current Clippers Ricky Davis and Brian Skinner. Before that, Lucas was an assistant with the Denver Nuggets for three seasons.

For three quarters, the Indiana Pacers played the type of defense that landed them in a seven-game losing streak. Suddenly, they realized there was only way out of it. Kareem Rush scored 24 points, and the Pacers limited the New York Knicks to three field goals in the final 8 1/2 minutes of a 103-100 victory Wednesday night.

"Everything's good," Dunleavy said before the Clippers played Sacramento. "I had a good conversation with (Sterling) today, and overall I think I made him feel comfortable and he made me feel comfortable. Anyway, it's all good and we're going forward.

The Orlando Magic have been the best road team in the NBA this season, but the Indiana Pacers might be headed in that direction. Danny Granger poured in a season-high 27 points and the Pacers rallied from a 15-point second half deficit to beat Orlando 115-109 on Friday night. It was Indiana's fifth win in its last six road games, including four against Western Conference opponents.
