Amir Johnson scored a season-high 18 points, Chris Bosh had 16 points and eight rebounds, and the Toronto Raptors easily dispatched the New Jersey Nets 118-95 Friday night. Andrea Bargnani and DeMar DeRozan each scored 16 points while Hedo Turkoglu and Marcus Banks each had 14 for the Raptors, who had lost four of five.




Heat re-sign guard Quinn after solid play
The Miami Heat have re-signed guard Chris Quinn. Quinn was one of the few bright spots last season for the injury-plagued Heat, averaging 14.4 points and 5.9 assists in the final 17 games. Quinn originally signed with Miami as a free agent in July 2006. The Heat have been looking to upgrade at point guard this summer. O'Neal, Suns say they need time to gel
Shaquille O'Neal and the rest of the Phoenix Suns insist everything is all right, that they just need time to work out the kinks that come with their giant addition. "We're not going to panic," Amare Stoudemire said. Time is running out, though, for the three-time defending Pacific Division champs. With 21 games remaining in the regular season, the Suns have fallen to sixth in the Western Conference. They are 3-5 since O'Neal was acquired from Miami for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks.

Jordan Farmar scored a career-high 24 points, Kobe Bryant added 21 and the Los Angeles Lakers extended their winning streak to a season-best 10 games Thursday night with a 106-88 victory over the Miami Heat. The Lakers (41-17) maintained their one-game lead over the defending champion San Antonio Spurs for best record in the Western Conference, and lead Phoenix and New Orleans by two.




Suns pull away late, defeat Mavs 109-97 (AP)

Steve Nash had 24 points and 13 assists and the Phoenix Suns pulled away in the final quarter to beat the weary and short-handed Dallas Mavericks 109-97 on Friday night. Amare Stoudemire and Leandro Barbosa scored 26 apiece and Boris Diaw 19 Leandro Barbosa for the Suns, who shot 57 percent and improved to 3-2 since Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks were sent to Miami for Shaquille O'Neal.




Marion, Banks not in uniform for Heat (AP)
The Miami Heat are stuck in the post-Shaq and pre-Shawn Marion era at least for a few more days. Marion and Marcus Banks, acquired Wednesday in a blockbuster trade with the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Shaquille O'Neal, were not in uniform for Miami's game against Philadelphia on Thursday night. Heat coach Pat Riley said Marion and Banks were undergoing the first parts of their physicals.

Marcus Banks, who has played his way back into the Suns' rotation, made a career-high seven 3s -- in eight attempts -- en route to a season-best 23 points.
