The Phoenix Suns have acquired Turkish forward Hedo Turkoglu in a trade that sends Brazilian guard Leandro Barbosa and forward Dwayne Jones to Toronto. The deal gives the Suns a third forward in their attempt to replace free agent Amare Stoudemire. Phoenix signed swingman Josh Childress in a sign-and-trade deal with Atlanta earlier Wednesday and picked up Hakim Warrick in similar swap with Chicago.

Steve Nash scored 15 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter, when he rallied the Phoenix Suns to a 109-107 season-opening victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night. Shaquille O'Neal had 25 points and 10 rebounds and the Phoenix Suns used a third-quarter scoring deluge to bury the Dallas Mavericks 128-100 on Friday night. Jason Richardson added 21 points and Leandro Barbosa had 20 in the Suns' highest-scoring game of the season. The Suns outscored the Mavs 40-19 in the third, a Phoenix season high in scoring for a quarter, to turn the game into a rout.

Leandro Barbosa scored 28 points, Shaquille O'Neal added 24 to move into eighth place on the NBA scoring list and the Phoenix Suns beat the Memphis Grizzlies 101-89 Tuesday night without ailing star Steve Nash. Tony Parker scored 32 points to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 102-96 victory over Phoenix in Game 2 on Tuesday night after the Suns gave away another double-digit, first-half lead. This time, the Spurs didn't need two overtimes and a few amazing shots to put away the Suns. The Spurs were down by as many as 14 in the first half before outscoring Phoenix 27-11 in the third quarter.




Spurs' Ginobili wins sixth man award
San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili has won the NBA's sixth man award given to the league's best reserve. Ginobili led the Spurs in scoring, averaging a career-high 19.5 points with 4.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists. Ginobili came off the bench in 51 of the 74 games he played this season. The Spurs have a 1-0 lead over the Phoenix Suns in their best-of-seven first-round playoff series. Suns guard Leandro Barbosa won the award last year. Ginobli got 123 of 124 first-place votes.

The Houston Rockets keep playing short-handed and finding ways to win. Tracy McGrady had 22 points, six rebounds and seven assists, and Luis Scola added 19 points as the Rockets cruised to a 101-90 win over the Phoenix Suns on Friday night. Amare Stoudemire scored 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in 30 minutes, and the Phoenix Suns beat the Memphis Grizzlies for the eighth time in a row with a 132-111 rout on Tuesday night. Leandro Barbosa scored a career-high 39 points and the Phoenix Suns beat the Orlando Magic 106-96 Saturday night, withstanding a 33-point, 18-rebound effort by Dwight Howard. Grant Hill had 14 points and eight rebounds in his Orlando return, but couldn't quiet a hostile crowd soured on him since he signed with Phoenix. Hill was booed all night, an unusual experience for the popular All-Star who spent seven years in Orlando but missed two-thirds of the games with several ankle injuries.

Cleveland guard Larry Hughes sat out the Cavaliers' game against the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night with a bruised left knee. Hughes was hurt in a collision with Phoenix's Leandro Barbosa on Sunday night in the opener of the Cavaliers' six-game road trip. The former Warriors guard was replaced in the Cavs' starting lineup by Sasha Pavlovic.

Leandro Barbosa, Raja Bell and Shawn Marion led eight players in double figures with 16 points apiece and the Phoenix Suns continued their dominance of the Eastern Conference with a 115-83 win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Tuesday night. The Bobcats, who had been 2-0 for the first time in their four-year history, trailed by as many as 34 points against the Suns. Phoenix has now won 15 of its last 16 road games against Eastern teams dating to last season.
