Kidd moves into 2nd in career assists (AP)

Jason Kidd moved into second place on the NBA's career assists list, Jason Terry scored 27 points and the Dallas Mavericks shot 65.5 percent in a 130-99 victory over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night. Kidd delivered seven assists to reach 10,337 in his career. He came in needing five to pass Mark Jackson's career total (10,334), and now trails only John Stockton (15,806).

Karl Malone surprises John Stockton despite family illness
Having a stepfather on life support prevented Karl Malone from attending Friday's induction of his Utah Jazz teammate John Stockton and coach Jerry Sloan to the Basketball Hall of Fame, but Malone surprised them by flying in for Saturday's HOF dinner.

Jerry Sloan, the only NBA coach to win 1,000 games with one franchise, has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame. Sloan was enshrined shortly after John Stockton, his longtime point guard. Together they helped the Jazz reach consecutive NBA finals in 1997-98. Not surprisingly, Sloan thanked his former coaches, from high school through the NBA.

John Stockton, the NBA's career leader in assists and steals, has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame. Stockton played his entire 19-year career in Utah, leading the Jazz to the NBA finals in 1997 and 1998. He also won Olympic gold medals in 1992 and 1996. His longtime coach, Jerry Sloan, was also in Friday's class.

Jordan tabs surprise presenter for Hall of Fame
Michael Jordan has chosen David Thompson, another high flyer from North Carolina, to present him, while Charles Barkley and Isiah Thomas also will be presenters at the Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony. Jordan highlights a class that includes David Robinson, John Stockton, and coaches Jerry Sloan of the Utah Jazz and C. Vivian Stringer of Rutgers. Each was asked to select a previous inductee to serve as a presenter at Friday's ceremony at Springfield, Mass.
