ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) Orlando coach Stan Van Gundy walked into the Magic's practice session Thursday toting an armload of statistics to illustrate why they've lost two straight games and fallen into a 2-1 series hole against Indiana.

CLEVELAND (AP) Jameer Nelson scored 21 points and the Orlando Magic clinched a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference with a 100-84 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday night.

Greg Monroe had 22 points and 11 rebounds, and the Detroit Pistons beat the depleted Orlando Magic 102-95 on Tuesday night. The Magic were without starters Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson and Ryan Anderson because of injuries. Ben Gordon added 18 points for the Pistons. A day after NBA fans finally found out where Orlando's biggest star would spend his immediate future, one of the teams long thought to be his preferred destination got a reminder of what they missed out on. Dwight Howard had 24 points and 25 rebounds, Jameer Nelson scored 25 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter and overtime, and the Orlando Magic came back to beat the Miami Heat 104-98 Tuesday night. It was the eighth 20-20 game of the season for Howard and the 40th of his career. The Magic overcame a 14-point, first-half deficit to win their third straight and fifth in six games.

The Atlanta Hawks' dominance over the Orlando Magic this year is not just a regular-season phenomenon. For now, it also includes the postseason. Ben Gordon emerged in the visiting locker room with a bandage around his left eye concealing three stitches. He can thank Dwight Howard, J.J. Redick and the suddenly fighting Orlando Magic. Howard had a season-high 33 points and added 17 rebounds, helping the Magic beat the Detroit Pistons 116-91 on Wednesday night with some physical play in the paint.

Nelson hyperextended his left knee in the Magic's win at Detroit on Sunday. He is day to day. Jason Williams started in Nelson's place. J.J. Redick had 20 points, Rashard Lewis scored 18 and the Orlando Magic blew past the Utah Jazz 104-99 on Monday night with some potent 3-point shooting. Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson is having surgery again. The team says the All-Star point guard will have arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Wednesday to repair a torn meniscus. He is expected to miss four to six weeks. Nelson was injured in the fourth quarter of Monday night's win against Charlotte. This is the second straight season he has been sidelined. Nelson tore the labrum in his right shoulder in February and had surgery.

Seldom-used Jeremy Richardson's lone basket proved the most memorable Tuesday night, a 3-pointer with 2:20 left in the fourth quarter that gave the Magic an NBA-record 23 3s in a 139-107 victory over the Sacramento Kings.

Now that they look at the standings and see they stack up favorably with recent NBA finalists, the young Orlando Magic feel they've done some growing up lately. Magic sign PG Johnson to back up Nelson
The Orlando Magic signed veteran free-agent point guard Anthony Johnson on Tuesday. Johnson will back up starter Jameer Nelson as he enters his 12th NBA season. He played in 69 games last season for the Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings. Johnson had a brief stint with Orlando in the 1999-2000 season, appearing in 18 games. The 33-year-old guard has played with seven different teams, averaging 5.7 points and 2.9 assists.

Hedo Turkoglu scored a season-high 28 points, Dwight Howard added 15 points and 21 rebounds, and the Orlando Magic beat the Charlotte Bobcats 104-95 for their third straight victory. Carlos Arroyo replaced the injured Jameer Nelson at point guard for Orlando and had 16 points and six assists. Rashard Lewis scored 18 points and Keith Bogans 12 as all five Magic starters reached double figures.

Hedo Turkoglu scored 21 points and Rashard Lewis had 20 and the Orlando Magic beat the Portland Trail Blazers 85-74 on Monday night to become the first NBA team to win 13 games this season. Dwight Howard, the Magic's leading scorer, was just 4-of-10 from the field and had nine points and 14 rebounds.

Dwight Howard had 21 points, 19 rebounds and became the NBA's youngest player to reach 3,000 rebounds, leading the Orlando Magic to a 95-70 victory over the ice cold and injured New Jersey Nets on Friday night. Rashard Lewis added 27 points, and Jameer Nelson hit two big 3-pointers in a decisive third-quarter spurt that carried the Magic to a franchise record-tying sixth straight road win.

Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson was scratched from the game against Minnesota on Tuesday night after sustaining what the team called a "slight concussion" in practice. Nelson was hit in the head by an errant elbow during practice on Monday in Washington, and still had some headaches on Tuesday, so coach Stan Van Gundy decided to give him the night off.

Pistons beat Magic in playoff rematch (AP)

Chauncey Billups had 18 points and seven assists Friday night to lead the Detroit Pistons to a second straight victory without Richard Hamilton, 116-92 over the Orlando Magic.
