The Denver Nuggets' preseason opener was a breeze. Next, they'll face a gust. The Nuggets dispatched the Minnesota Timberwolves 118-95 on Friday night, as reserve J.R. Smith finished with 21 points and Chris Andersen grabbed 11 boards. The Denver Nuggets thought they were pretty good. Then two weeks ago along came the Boston Celtics, who humiliated the Nuggets in a blowout win and put Denver in its place. Iverson says he alerted group for no-show
Allen Iverson said Thursday that officials from a promotions company that sued him knew he wasn't going to show up for a weekend of appearances in Omaha in early August. "I alerted them that I wasn't going to make it and I guess they didn't alert the people that's supposed to have been there," the Denver Nuggets star said after practice.

Allen Iverson has been sued for not showing up, this time to speak to his fans. The lawsuit filed in Douglas County District Court says the Denver Nuggets star didn't come to a weekend of booked appearances in Omaha in early August, leaving fans at a youth rally and two clubs without their main attraction. Now, the promoter who tried to bring the "Answer" to Omaha wants one instead - and about $44,000 in damages.

Iverson's stepfather faces drug charges (AP)
NBA star Allen Iverson's stepfather was indicted on federal drug distribution charges after police said they found crack cocaine in his car in April. Michael Andre Freeman, 51, will remain jailed until his bond hearing Friday. He was to have been in court Aug. 24 but the hearing was postponed a week to give him time to find a lawyer, the U.S.
